What we eat today  今天吃什麼。

- Website

What We Eat Today 今天吃什麼 is an interactive recipe website that blends functionality with playfulness, transforming the everyday question of “What should I eat today?” into a visually engaging and personalized digital experience. Built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, this project reimagines a traditional recipe archive as a dynamic, user-friendly platform that celebrates food culture, creativity, and choice.

The concept behind What We Eat Today is rooted in the emotional and cultural dimensions of food. Eating is never just about nourishment—it’s about mood, memory, and identity. With that in mind, I designed the website to offer more than just recipes; it’s a journey through taste, aesthetic, and mood. Every design decision—from color palettes to interaction flow—was made to make cooking feel exciting, intuitive, and approachable.

The website features a large, diverse collection of recipes, visually organized using card layouts, animated icons, and hover effects. Each recipe entry includes not only ingredients and instructions, but also mood-based tags, cultural context, and visual cues that help users connect with the dish on a deeper level.

At the heart of the site is a custom filtering system powered by JavaScript. Users can filter recipes based on dietary preferences, cooking time, meal type, mood, and even color.  This personalized feature makes the site feel tailored to the user’s cravings, not just a static list of options.

The visual design is playful and warm. CSS animations bring subtle delight as elements float, fade, or pop with interaction. The typography and color schemes shift gently with the chosen filters, adding an extra sensory layer that links mood and taste. Elements such as illustrated food icons, animated transitions, and interactive ingredient checklists turn the browsing process into a fun, gamified experience.

Responsive design ensures the website works smoothly across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices, encouraging users to bring the experience into the kitchen as they cook. I also added micro-interactions that guide the user gently through the interface, making it beginner-friendly without sacrificing personality.

What We Eat Today 今天吃什麼 is ultimately about joy, discovery, and the role of design in everyday rituals. By combining thoughtful UI/UX principles with code and cultural storytelling, the website creates a digital kitchen space where users can explore, learn, and be inspired. Whether someone is a seasoned cook or just starting out, this project invites them to see cooking not as a chore, but as a form of creative expression.
